Privacy Policy
Rumi is a personal assistant that runs as a native app on your Mac. It is made by Dead Code (deadcode.dev). This policy explains what data Rumi accesses, where it goes and what we do with it.
The short version
- Rumi has no servers. Your conversations, settings and connected accounts stay on your Mac.
- To answer you, Rumi sends what is needed to the AI model provider you choose (OpenAI or Anthropic). That includes text Rumi read for you, such as an email or a file.
- We do not sell your data, show ads, or use your data to train AI models.
- Rumi has no analytics or telemetry. Crash reports stay on your Mac unless you decide to send one.
What stays on your Mac
- Conversations, memory, agents, routines and settings, in the app's folder in Application Support.
- API keys and account tokens, in the macOS Keychain.
- Files Rumi saves for you (for example, email attachments), in your Documents folder.
Who receives data, and when
- Your AI model provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Anthropic through your own Claude Code account): your messages, the conversation context, and the text of whatever Rumi read to answer you. Their own privacy policies and terms apply.
- TypeSafe (api.typesafe.ai): your message and recent conversation context, only to decide which tools a request needs.
- Web search: your search query goes to the search backend you use (Anthropic or Brave), and Rumi downloads the pages it reads.
- Voice dictation: transcribed by Apple on your Mac, or by OpenAI if you choose it.
- Services you connect yourself, such as Google, an email account, Composio or Telegram: Rumi talks to them directly from your Mac, with your credentials, only to do what you ask.
Google user data
If you connect a Google account, Rumi asks only for the permissions you choose:
- Send email (
gmail.send): to send the emails you ask for. From your own account, Rumi always shows the email and asks for your confirmation and Touch ID before sending. - Read email (
gmail.readonly): to search and read the emails you ask about, and to save an attachment you ask for. - Read Drive (
drive.readonly): to search and read the files you ask about. - Your email address (
openid, email), to show which account is connected.
How Rumi handles that data:
- Access: only when you ask, in the chat or in a routine you set up.
- Use: only to answer that request. The text of an email or file goes to the AI model provider you chose, to produce the answer.
- Storage: on your Mac only. The answer and a one-line summary stay in your conversation; tokens stay in the Keychain. Nothing is stored on any server of ours.
- Sharing: with no one else. We never sell Google data, use it for advertising, or let people read it.
- AI training: Google user data is never used to train AI or machine-learning models, by us or for us.
Rumi's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
You can disconnect a Google account at any time in Rumi → Settings → Accounts, which deletes its tokens from your Mac, and revoke Rumi's access at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Deleting your data
Everything Rumi keeps is on your Mac. Delete a conversation in the app, disconnect accounts in Settings, or uninstall Rumi and remove its folder in ~/Library/Application Support. Data already sent to your AI model provider is governed by that provider's retention policy.
Children
Rumi is not directed to children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its effective date.
